- Tuesday, 22 June 2010As the World Cup gets into full swing this week, accidental breakages could be more likely and the cost of replacing items could adversely affect a
debt management plan.
Halifax Home Insurance states that claims for broken windows and accidental damages increased by 37 per cent last summer compared to the winter months.
The firm expects this figure to be higher this year as householders could be hosting World Cup parties and barbecues this month.
Replacing a broken window could cost as much as £235, which could leave a consumer short on cash for a
debt management plan.
David Rochester, head of underwriting for Halifax Home Insurances, said: "With 2010 being a World Cup year we anticipate even more sport-related mishaps as people practice their sporting skills around the home, or simply get carried away with the excitement, spilling food and drink on the carpet in the process."
Churchill Home Insurance found that 18 per cent of households were planning on buying a new TV set in order to watch the World Cup.
