- Friday, 9 October 2009British Airways (BA) and Aer Lingus (AL) job cuts could result in a number of former employees seeking
individual voluntary agreement advice.
BA are to make approximately 1,700 staff redundant, with 800 AL staff also set to made jobless.
The British airline also intends to implement a two year pay freeze throughout it's entire workforce.
The European Regions Airline association's (ERA) advisor on air transport policy Andrew Clarke said that the air travel industry has seen significant economic setbacks.
He commented: "The circumstances for the air transport industry - certainly for our sector - remain the worst we have experienced in the post-war era.
"The reason for that is the extreme speed of the decline that started last year with the credit crunch."
According to the ERA, there was a 7.2 per cent year-on-year decline in passenger numbers from January to June 2009.
