- Monday, 18 May 2009Pub landlords struggling with their finances amid the recession may benefit from a new debt management initiative set up by a Stoke-on-Trent bar owner.
This Is Staffordshire reported that Rob McKeon - who runs Liars and Harry's Bar on Glebe Street - has joined up with Twin Pier to help landlords in North Staffordshire who are struggling amid the effects of the smoking ban and the recession.
He said: "Thirty pubs a week are closing at the moment and a lot of people are having problems."
Mr McKeon added that pubs aren't the only business group feeling the pinch of the recession and many people are seeking out "breathing space" so they can get their finances back on track.
Earlier this month, Catherin Torazzo of Citizens Advice told the Telegraph that while
individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs) and other insolvency procedures are "not easy options", they may be worth considering for people "who have no prospect of ever repaying their debts".
