- Wednesday, 22 July 2009A significant number of Britons may need to seek
IVA information after falling victim to rogue collection agencies.
While the government recently announced a planned crackdown on unscrupulous debt collection organisations, Credit Action has reported that the situation facing struggling borrowers is the same as it always has been.
That is, those seeking failing to turn to professional specialists for debt help run the risk of finding themselves faced with aggressive collection agencies.
Chris Tapp, the director of the national money education charity, advised: "If people are at all worried or don't understand the process, because, for a lot of people, having to deal with debt collectors is quite a new, unfamiliar and also an unnerving experience, so if there are aspects of that which people don't understand, then getting help and talking to somebody about that, instead of staying quiet and living in fear, is always the best thing to."
Earlier this month, the Financial Services Consumer Panel (FSCP) advised both borrowers and mortgage lenders that debt advice agencies should not be seen as a last resort by those people struggling to meet their mortgage repayments.
