- Friday, 4 September 2009The number of construction workers entering into
individual voluntary agreements (IVAs) could rise as the industry registered yet another monthly decline.
According to figures released by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), the demand for construction work decreased again in August.
Though the fall is the smallest registered monthly decrease in the last 18 months, it is still evidence of further contraction.
Alex Hawkes, news editor at Construction News, said that even though the rate of decline had slowed, growth did not seem imminent.
He commented: "The key point is that it is still declining, which has been the story for the construction industry for so long now.
"In a lot of the sectors we really don't expect the construction industry to come out of recession for quite a long time."
According to the Construction Products Association, two-thirds of building contractors said that commercial output decreased by 66 per cent in the second quarter of this year.
