- Friday, 6 November 2009An increasing number of UK citizens could find themselves seeking information of
individual voluntary agreements (IVAs) as a result of the postal strikes.
As a consequence of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) strike, it has been warned that people could be more susceptible to identity theft as a result of reduced concern over late or missing post.
Darryl Bowman, of Experian's CreditExpert, said that consumers should be wary of the situation.
He commented: "The recent upsurge in account takeover fraud shows that we mustn't let the postal strike act as a smokescreen for fraudsters.
"It's tempting to assume missing post is down to a backlog. Investigate and report any missing items quickly."
Figures from Experian indicate that the number of victims of account takeover fraud increased in the first nine months of this year by 206 per cent.
The CWU strike has been widely condemned by leading business and political figures, including business secretary Peter Mandelson.
