- Thursday, 29 October 2009The number of people requiring debt advice as a result of being conned by cowboy builders could reduce as a result of new industry legislation.
A new Industry Standard's Register (ISR) has been launched by the Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Industries National Training Group (KBB NTG), to which credible installers can sign up to prove that they are genuine.
All listed parties will be approved by both the KBB NTG and the National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT), meaning that consumers can be sure that they are hiring an above-board firm.
John Andrews, chief executive of the NAPIT, said that the system was aimed at prevention rather than correction.
He commented: "The whole idea of the ISR is a right first time approach. We don't want people to make a complaint we want it done correctly."
"We don't want complaints; we don't want the dream that you've had when you have a new kitchen designed turn into a nightmare."
The ISR will initially cover kitchen installers only, but will eventually be implemented across all trades.
