- Tuesday, 15 September 2009People that are facing potential house repossession could find it useful to contact a debt advice specialist.
According to the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the number of properties taken into possession in quarter two of this year has fallen by nine per cent.
However, repossession remains a very real threat for a number of people across the country.
Commenting on the FSA figures, the Building Societies Association (BSA) said that borrowers that face losing their house should be proactive in finding a solution.
Paul Broadhead, BSA head of mortgage policy, said: "The earlier a borrower contacts their lender, the more likely they are to stay in their home.
"Borrowers contacting their building society will find a sympathetic response and that their society will work with them to help overcome their problems."
Consumers could also consider speaking to a debt advice specialist.
The government has recently set up a website offering advice about repossession.
