- Wednesday, 16 September 2009Children from disadvantaged backgrounds remain in a similar position throughout the education system.
That is according to the Every Child a Chance Trust (ECCT), which was reacting to recent figures from Sainsbury's Finance indicating that 53 per cent of students receive financial help during university.
Parents who are struggling financially but wish to help their child through education could find speaking to a debt advice specialist of help.
Jean Gross, director of the ECCT, said: "Children who live in disadvantaged areas are disadvantaged right through the education system and this shows how it is likely to continue at entry to university.
"I think if people are struggling on the breadline then there is nothing left in more and more families to think about university and education."
According to the Department of Children, Schools and Families, there has been a 20.8 per cent rise in the A level take-up rate since 2002.
