- Monday, 21 September 2009Debt advice could help students who have incurred unforeseen costs as a result of not receiving their loans on time.
Owing to a backlog in applications for student loans, the Student Loans Company has been unable to distribute all requested monies before the start of term, leaving a number of undergraduates struggling financially.
The Brightside Trust with Uniaid has suggested that university attendees from poorer backgrounds will be hardest hit by the delays.
Dr Tessa Stone, chief executive of the charity, said: "Our main concern
is [that] this sort of thing affects those who can't rely on their parents [and] haven't got a fall back plan, for whom this is already a big leap of faith to take on that level of prospective debt."
It was recently widely reported that approximately 170,000 university students would begin the new university term without the financial aid they are entitled to.
