Debt advice could help people unwilling to change utility provider

- Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Switching energy providers can help save money, according to confused.com.

However, those people who are happy with their provider but are struggling financially, seeking debt advice could be the solution for reordering the finances.

A recent report from uSwitch.com found that only 52 per cent of customers are happy with their energy supplier and just 45 per cent would recommend their supplier to somebody else.

Gareth Kloet, head of utilities at Confused.com, said the recession has had a significant impact on people's attitude towards their savings, resulting in a rise in supplier changes.

He commented: "The credit crunch has made more and more people focus on the savings they can make and as prices rose last year, we saw a big increase in the number of people switching providers and/or tariffs."

According to the Customer Satisfaction report from uSwitch.com, npower is the UK's least approved supplier, though it has seen an increase of eight per cent in its approval ratings over the past year.
