- Friday, 11 September 2009The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has reacted to a report published today on how best to implement a £50 billion public spending cut.
How to Save £50 Billion, a publication from the TaxPayers' Alliance (TA) and Institute of Directors (IoD) that has been released today (September 11th), will hit the more vulnerable demographics, says the TUC.
Those who find themselves financially affected and in need of advice could consider speaking to a debt help specialist.
Brendan Barber, TUC general secretary, said: "[The TA and IoD] explode the idea that cuts can be just painless efficiency savings and reveal that the victims will be pensioners, children, students, the poor and parents.
"Particularly striking is the absence of any cuts in the welfare state for the super-rich, such as tax relief on the huge pensions that top directors pay themselves."
Earlier this year, pensioner poverty in Britain was found to be among the worst in Europe.
