- Friday, 13 March 2009The Swindon Advertiser reports that consumer debt in the area is causing unrest among residents who feel hounded by bailiffs.
Some citizens are finding that their debt negotiations are being rejected when they attempt to put a manageable repayment process into place.
Middleleaze resident Nick Gilchrist tells the publication: "When I was contacted by the bailiff I invited them into my house and told them I would pay £30 a month until the £300 debt was paid off."
After missing a payment, however, he was told some of his property was to be repossessed.
Despite waiting for the bailiffs to come for his goods, Mr Gilchrist's vigil was in vain as nobody arrived at his door.
Swindon Council advises the news provider that problems with the contractors it uses in its debt negotiations will be investigated if a claim is lodged.
However,
IVA solutions could provide an alternative for residents with debt problems.
IVA solutions can help with high levels of consumer debt, potentially reducing the overall amount owed by up to 70 per cent.
