- Monday, 16 March 2009Britons put their debt problems aside on Friday, March 13th to raise a record-breaking amount for Red Nose Day.
The Comic Relief event, which is held once every two years, broke through the previous highest-ever total raised on the night.
By the end of the seven-hour broadcast, £57,809,938 had been donated as the nation overcame its debt problems to help those less fortunate around the world.
And Rachael Stiles, spokesperson for the Fair Investment Company, pointed out that doing so may have actually helped consumers with their own debts.
She asked: "As Brits cut back on trips to the cinema and eating out, what better way to spend a Friday night than at home in support of Red Nose Day?"
Consumers keen to get their own finances back on track so they can do more for charity could find setting up an IVA to be the first step.
By setting up an IVA, consumers can put a schedule in place to repay what they owe - which could give them the confidence that they will be back in the black by the time Red Nose Day 2011 arrives.
