- Tuesday, 4 May 2010Doctors are realising that
debt management worries can lead to emotional and physical problems, reveals an insolvency expert.
More consumers who need advice about
debt management plans are starting to turn towards debt helplines for solutions and doctors to help combat the stress caused by financial uncertainty.
Richard Sorsky, chief executive of the UK insolvency helpline Debt Advice Service, said: "We are seeing lots more doctors surgeries who we work with directly - realising that stress caused by this is a serious illness, and yes it is often linked to finances."
He added that one of the problems with
debt management is that prices have increased while wages have not. This makes it harder for those in debt to save money.
Last week, a street poll in Sheffield revealed that 65 per cent of consumers felt positive about their financial situation and only 35 per cent did not.
The people who did not feel confident about their finances tended to be those on a low income such as students or retired people who still had outgoings.
