- Wednesday, 4 November 2009A large proportion of people are having to take on extra work outside of their regular job in order to cope financially, it has been revealed.
According to research from Hirescores.com, 46 per cent of people have taken on extra work in order to cope with the recession.
The significant proportion of people unable to manage on their regular wage could highlight the need for widespread debt advice.
Lisette Howlett, managing director of Hirescores.co.uk said that people's decision to find extra work was not a shock.
She commented: "I'm not surprised that more and more people are using their trades outside of work to make some extra money, with so many people struggling to make ends meet."
Ms Howlett went on say that while there was nothing wrong with earning extra money, people should do it lawfully and not engage in cash-in-hand jobs.
Hairdressers were found to be the most likely to look for extra work, with 73 per cent admitting they had already done so.
