- Wednesday, 19 May 2010Energy bills could be cut for many consumers, providing them with extra cash for
debt management or home improvements, as gas and electricity companies report growth.
According to uSwitch.com, a comparison and switching site, wholesale prices for gas and electricity remain low and profits are up for some providers which could lead to a decline in costs for the consumer.
For example energy providers such as E.ON reported a 16 per cent increase in profit in the first three months of 2010.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "Talk of an increase in household energy prices this year is premature at best and misleading at worst.
"The fact is that the big six suppliers are still seeing healthy profits and have benefitted from low wholesale prices for the last couple of years. This means they could be well-placed to cut their prices again in 2010, which is great news for consumers."
She advised consumers to search for an online plan for their energy as these can provide the cheapest bills.
If gas bills are lowered in price consumers will have more money to spend on things such as
debt management.
