- Monday, 27 July 2009Millions of people have been forced to work longer hours or take on a second job in order to cope financially, according to uSwitch.com.
A total of 2.7 million employees have started an additional job in a bid to ease their financial woes, with a further 5.1 million working longer hours.
An additional 1.6 million people have been forced to return to work, with 800,000 upping their hours from part-time to full-time.
Louise Bond, personal finance manager at uSwitch.com, said that it was of little surprise that people were resorting to such measures.
She commented: "Salary increases are fast becoming a distant memory so workers have to find other ways to make up for the lost cash.
"In order to do this, people's working habits have had to change to increase income levels which includes returning to work, picking up overtime and moving from part to full time work."
Those unable to secure additional hours or a second job may find seeking debt management a helpful alternative.
