- Wednesday, 28 April 2010Deaf people will have more access to advice about
debt management following the launch of web pages by Citizens Advice dedicated to British Sign Language on April 26th.
The national charity hopes that deaf people will be more likely to get
debt management advice from these pages as they are more accessible to them.
It will benefit over 250,000 users with hearing difficulties. Citizens Advice has made five films written and presented by a deaf employee at the charity, that explain how to get advice, where to go and what to bring.
There are also four specific films tailored to giving advice about debt, benefits, employment including discrimination at work and discrimination in general.
Ali Harris, head of equality strategy at Citizens Advice, said: "The launch comes as part of our continuing commitment to reach all parts of the community, including the two million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK."
A successful trial of the videos in 2008 has led to their permanent use on the charity's website.
Citizens Advice was formed in 1939 and provides free impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities including debt.
