- Tuesday, 27 October 2009Calls have been made for debt management to be taught in schools as household debt problems continue to rise.
A Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) forum in Wirral heard the calls amid discussions about the levels of UK debt education and understanding, according to the Wirral Globe.
Esther McVey, the prospective Conservative MP for Wirral West, sat on the meeting's panel and helped address people's questions on personal debt problems, but did not mask over the nationwide issues currently being faced.
She commented: "Each man, woman and child already has £22,500 of government debt, and with personal debt at an all time high there needs to be strict measures in place to tackle this crisis," the news provider reports.
Should debt education plans be adopted, a better-schooled younger generation could be more prepared for future recessions and reduce the need of entering into bankruptcy-avoidance schemes such as
individual voluntary agreements (IVAs).
