- Monday, 15 June 2009A teenager chose to get an IVA after running up gambling debts of £9,908 on credit cards he stole from his family, it has been revealed.
The Herald reports the case of 19-year-old Patrick Kendall, whose debts were run up during a spree which saw him bet in casinos and on horse races.
He has since entered into the
IVA process in an attempt to get his finances back on track - and repay what he owes to his family.
The Plymouth teenager's spending spree began when he let himself into his parents' house while they were on holiday using keys stolen from his brother.
Kendall took credit cards belonging to both his parents and his brother, reaching the £9,908 total in little over a month.
Prosecutor Michael French noted that the teenager had been accumulating debts for some time before the event - but added that he is a "man of good character", The Herald reports.
Individuals with high levels of debt run up for any reason may wish to get an IVA, with those available from
Money Debt & Credit capable of writing off up to 70 per cent of the total amount owed.
