- Friday, 11 June 2010Additional expenses from hosting World Cup parties this summer could make it harder for some consumers to stay on top of a
debt management plan.
According to Post Office Insurance, a third of footie fans intend to increase their spending by £200 each this summer, which totals £2 billion for England as a whole.
Hosting a World Cup party at home may seem like a way of saving money but stocking up on food and drink for guests can quickly add up.
Gerry Barratt, head of Post Office Insurance, said: "It seems many people are set to enjoy a home match and will be cheering on their favourite team from the comfort of their living room, to avoid the additional expense of buying food and drink in pubs."
However, 24 per cent of fans plan to buy a plasma TV, 14 per cent intend to buy a new barbecue if they haven't done so already and eight per cent want to buy a new fridge to keep their refreshments cool.
These are all expensive items and could make it difficult to handle any
debt management plans.
The World Cup kicks off today (June 11th) in South Africa and England play their first match against the US tomorrow.
