- Thursday, 27 August 2009Approximately two million Briton's have become the victim of fraud over the past 12 months having shared their PIN details with family or friends.
Rising fraud levels are yet another risk to consumers already struggling to cope with the financial situation and could result in an increase in the number of people entering into
individual voluntary agreements.
More than eight million people shared their PIN details with someone in the past year in order for that person to make a purchase on their behalf. A quarter of these were then the subject of fraud.
John O'Rourke, managing director of LV= home insurance, said: " It's concerning to see the numbers of card-holders who are so lax with their card details, even if they are sharing them with their friends and family.
"Not only does it undermine the security of your account and increases the risk of ID fraud but also card holders could end up out of pocket if they are found to have shared their card details."
As a result of loopholes in security systems, Abbey and Halifax customers have been put at risk of fraud, it has been widely reported today (August 27th).
