- Tuesday, 3 November 2009An increasing number of Scottish people could seek debt advice as a result of financial unpreparedness.
According to figures released by Aegon, 42 per cent of Scottish households have no savings or investments.
Furthermore, there is a higher proportion of Scottish employees in public pension schemes than the rest of the UK - a trend that leaves them in less control owing to a subjection to reform fluctuations.
Stewart Ritchie, of Aegon, said it was time for Scottish citizens to start saving once more and planning for the future.
He commented: "It's time to return to the traditional Scottish values of thrift and prudence. Scots haven't been putting away enough money in the good years and there's a clear evidence of a worrying lack of 'rainy day' savings."
Mr Ritchie went on to say that there was a particular risk for those who were unprepared for potential job losses.
The Halifax plans to implement a £1-a-day overdraft charge in December; a move that has been criticised for its potential to affect vulnerable customers the most.
