- Wednesday, 23 December 2009IVA solutions may be on the rise, after new figures showed that long term unemployment in the UK has doubled.
The number of people seeking the Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) for more than 12 months reached 201,015 in November according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC) up from 103, 930 in December 2008.
The TUC anticipated that the number of long-term dole claimants would continue to rise into the new year. The organisation also stated that the number of JSA applications had more than doubled in 267 local UK authority areas.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said the festive period signalled financial hardship for those on the dole.
"While millions of working families are enjoying their Christmas food and presents together, those reliant on JSA will struggle to afford much Christmas cheer," he said.
"Every job loss is a human tragedy, but when people are out of work for over a year they risk being permanently scarred by joblessness."
The maximum weekly allowance for an individual aged over 25 years old is £64.30, and £50.95 for those aged between 16 and 24.
