Figures from consumer watchdog Which? show that an estimated six million people currently live in fear of having their home repossessed.
Which? is now calling for more to be done to make sure that unsecured debt cannot lead to people losing their homes.
In all, 43 per cent of those surveyed said they would have difficulty in meeting mortgage repayments if the chief income earner in their family were to become unemployed.
However, those who are already facing such a dilemma could find that an
IVA answers the questions raised by their financial difficulty.
IVA solutions can get finances back on track in a predetermined space of time - and some can allow families to keep assets such as their car and home, as well as writing off up to 70 per cent of the total amount owed.
