- Thursday, 15 October 2009The number of people seeking advice from companies that deal with
individual voluntary agreements (IVAs) could increase as a result of the continued rise in UK unemployment.
According to recent figures from the Office for National Statistics, unemployment levels in Britain increased by 88,000 in the three months to August.
However, while overall joblessness increased, the rise was the smallest seen since July of 2008.
Work and Pensions Secretary Yvette Cooper said that while the figures were better than many had expected, they still represented a very serious problem.
She commented: "Although unemployment isn't as high today as many feared it would be at the time of the Budget, it remains a serious problem, which is why we must keep increasing support and advice to get people back into jobs."
The number of unemployment benefits claimants increased by more than 20,000 during September to 1.63 million.
