- Monday, 23 March 2009Up-front costs are preventing Britons from making green home improvements, it has been claimed, which could lead some to seek
IVA advice.
With
IVA help, consumers could tackle their existing debt and leave themselves on a more secure financial footing to raise the green profile of their home.
But Rachel Pyne, head of customer services at self-build supplier BuildStore, notes that the short-term outlay is proving too much of a dissuasion for Britons to achieve the long-term savings offered from eco-friendly upgrades to their property.
"It can initially appear to be more expensive because of the up-front costs in terms of doing it," she says.
Ms Pyne adds: "In times like this, when people are trying to keep costs down, it may not be as successful as it was a while ago."
But she points out that green home improvements should pay for themselves over time, once the initial costs have been met.
For consumers with pre-existing debts,
IVA advice could be a step towards being able to afford to raise the energy efficiency of their homes.
