IVA help may be needed to fund record energy bills
- Tuesday, 2 February 2010IVA solutions may be needed as Brits prepare to face their biggest ever winter energy bills.
New research by moneysupermarket.com reveals that a typical, standard tariff winter energy bill has increased by a significant 20 per cent, or £104, over the last 12 months.
UK households are paying energy bills that have more than doubled in price over the past six years, with the average winter energy bill jumping from £217 to £616 a year - a whopping increase of 183 per cent, according to the study.
Moneysupermarket.com utilities manager Scott Byrom said people still awaiting their energy bill were in for a "nasty surprise".
"With the backdrop of recession, a very cold winter and higher than usual energy consumption, people need to think seriously about how they will pay for their usage," he said.
"The prospect of forking out for a chunky winter bill should be the catalyst to swap to the best tariff for their region and consumption, as well as actively trying to be more energy efficient and reducing the amount of energy they use to save money."
According to independent price comparison site uSwitch.com, the typical household now faces an annual energy bill of £1,239 - 36 per cent more than at the beginning of 2008.
