- Monday, 18 January 2010IVA solutions could help the large number of bill payers about to be hit by high energy bills after the recent spate of bad weather.
Price comparison site moneysupermarket.com estimates that people could be hit with a ten per cent increase on their annual energy bill as a result of the "big freeze". The prediction was based around household energy consumption doubling since the first snowfall in December.
Utilities manager at moneysupermarket.com Scott Byrom said the recent cold snap could not have come at a worse time for many bill payers.
"With the expensive Christmas period only just behind us the fact that a quarterly energy bill could be landing on the doorstep in the next few weeks for between £500 and £600 means there will be many cash strapped Brits struggling to find the money to cover it," he said.
Mr Byrom said a ten per cent increase was relatively "conservative", and expects that many households will experience a larger rise in their heating costs.
According to independent price comparison site uSwitch.com, the average household now faces an annual energy bill of £1,239 - 36 per cent more than at the beginning of 2008.
