- Tuesday, 1 September 2009An increasing number of people could find themselves entering into
individual voluntary agreements (IVAs) as a result of paying too much for their bills.
The Consumer Credit Counselling Service has suggested that it is relatively easy for people to overpay for their bills as a result of not understanding them properly.
With a significant number of Britons struggling financially as a result of the economic crisis, the overcharging of bills could prove too much for some.
A spokesperson for the CCCS said: "Most people won't even check their energy bills. It would be fairly easy to overpay the bills if you are not keeping tabs on [your payments] especially if you are paying by direct debit as well."
The CCCS made its comments following research from uSwitch.com, which revealed that 86 per cent of people were unable to calculate an energy bill properly.
According to the data, 73 per cent of people believe a qualification in maths is required to understand household energy bills.
