IVA rates could reduce with credit score-conscious Brits

- Thursday, 12 November 2009

A large proportion of Britons have refrained from applying for a credit card though fear of a rejection affecting their credit score.

That is according to Confused.com, which has revealed that 40 per cent of the public has held back from applying for plastic just in case they are turned down and their credit history is marred with a black mark.

The financial awareness and responsibility displayed in this trend could result in fewer people finding themselves in money trouble and adopting programmes such as individual voluntary agreements (IVAs).

Joanne Garcia, head of credit cards at the price comparison site, said that it was younger Brits that were displaying the highest levels of concern.

She comented: "22 to 30 year olds are the most concerned by the potential of a black mark on their credit score, as the financially savvy young look to the future and see problems about not only getting a credit card or loan."

Only 25 per cent of Britons have checked to see if their credit scores are accurate.
