IVA help after new figures show that nearly 90 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will not hire them this year.
The Centre for Enterprise (CFE) survey found that only 12 per cent of SMEs plan to recruit graduates in the next year, and only 11 per cent were reported to have hired a recent graduate in the last 12 months.
SMEs account for nearly 99 per cent of the UK's enterprises, claims CFE, the organisation which is dedicated to research on employment and skills in the UK.
CFE joint managing director James Kewin said it was essential that government interventions aimed at stimulating the demand for graduates were "grounded in the day to day reality" of running a business.
"While the left hand of government is attempting to stimulate the adoption of high value added business strategies and graduate recruitment, the right hand can often be adding to the burden of regulation and oversight that SMEs have to contend with," he said.
According to figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats, since the start of the recession the unemployment rate for 18 to 24-year-olds has risen from 5.8 per cent to 18 per cent.
