- Friday, 14 August 2009Scotland has seen a far smaller proportion of its population benefit from the recession than the rest of the UK.
That is according to Clydesdale Bank, which suggests that only one in every 50 Scots has benefitted positively from the recession compared to one in every 16 in the rest of Britain.
With 98 per cent of Scotland impacted negatively by the recession, an increased number of people could find themselves facing personal insolvency or bankruptcy and subsequently turning to an
individual voluntary agreement (IVA).
Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale Bank, said: "The economic downturn has had a negative impact for many people. The numbers [of people impacted positively] appear to be lower in Scotland."
The north-east of England is the UK's most positively impacted region, with 21 per cent of the area's population suggesting the economic downturn has heralded good news.
