- Wednesday, 17 February 2010Home owners may soon require
debt management in the face of rising energy bills that are the result of overheating their properties, it has been claimed.
Research by price comparison website Confused.com reveals that one in ten people are still leaving the heating on all day in empty houses, despite claiming the recent cold snap has made them more energy efficient.
Some 37 per cent of people will turn up the thermostat before the practical option of putting on a jumper, and only one third of consumers are considering switching tariffs as a solution to rising energy bills.
The average home owner was found to be heating their homes to a high 22.6 degrees, according to the study.
Commenting on the figures, Confused.com head of energy Gareth Kloet said: "In order to minimise the impact of unnecessarily high bills, it's important to realise that winter doesn't stop when you go through your front door.
"Jumpers and extra layers that keep you warm outdoors do work just as well inside and do not load your energy bills."
Recent research by moneysupermarket.com reveals that a typical, standard tariff winter energy bill has increased by a significant 20 per cent, or £104, over the last 12 months.
