- Friday, 28 May 2010Concerns over spending cuts and the possibility of increased taxes are placing more pressure on households to save money through methods such as switching broadband companies.
According to Consumer Choices, over half of broadband users have not changed providers in over three years, which could mean they are overpaying by as much as a third.
Internet speed has increased in that period of time while prices have fallen, so swapping companies could lower bills and the extra money saved could contribute to a
debt management plan.
Michael Phillips, product director at Consumer Choices, said: "It is vital that consumers do not needlessly overspend. Broadband is now perceived as an essential utility, yet it is so often overlooked when households look to cut their monthly bills.
"This is very disappointing as there is a fantastic selection of broadband providers available who are battling for market share and in so doing drive through cost savings and service improvements."
Another way that consumers could find extra funds is to recycle their old mobile phone for profit. Consumer Focus found that there are 85 million phones that could be sold in the UK.
