- Wednesday, 2 December 2009A number of British women are not adequately preparing themselves for retirement, new figures suggest.
According to research from Scottish Widows, 24 per cent of women have either stopped or reduced their pension contributions and other long-term savings plans to have kids.
Furthermore, 36 per cent admit that being reliant on their partner's pension will not be sufficient in the long run.
Should women fail to contribute funds to their own pension pots, they could find themselves in need of debt help in future years.
Alison Morris, savings expert for Scottish Widows said: "While women are waking up to the fact that they won't be able to rely on their partner's income to keep them comfortable in retirement, this isn't necessarily translating into pension savings."
She went on to say that while planning for retirement might not be a priority for some women they should "start putting themselves first" when planning their future.
It is revealed that 32 per cent of men say their wives are financially dependent on them.
