- Monday, 12 October 2009Fewer people are suffering from credit card fraud as a result of an increase in the take-up rate of online card protection services.
That is according to Visa, which suggests that the adoption of such schemes by both consumers and retailers is helping to combat the crime.
With fewer people suffering at the hands of online fraudsters, the total number of people struggling with wider debt problems could fall.
Ian Barber, spokesperson for the payment body, said that part of the reason for the reduction in fraud was an increase in the number of fraudsters moving their activities abroad.
He commented: "Fraudsters [are] stopping looking at the UK and looking elsewhere because it is just becoming more and more difficult for them to operate in [this country]."
Data from Financial Fraud Action reveals that credit card fraud reduced by 23 per cent in the first six months of 2009.
