- Wednesday, 10 March 2010Consumers may benefit from
IVA advice following new claims that they are in for a tough time during 2010.
Director of research for Mintel Richard Perks said "on the whole" incomes are starting to be squeezed again, despite recent research that suggests otherwise.
"I think most consumers assume there are pretty tough times ahead. It's very obvious we are going to have rising taxes and interest rates, and that is really going to topple consumers," he said.
"I think they are likely to end 2010 in a much worse situation than in 2009."
His comments come after the release of the latest Retail Sales Monitor from the British Retail Consortium, which reveals a rise of 2.2 per cent in UK retail sales values.
Overall, sales rose 4.5 per cent against only 0.1 per cent growth in February 2009.
Mr Perks said this was not a surprise, given that February was "always" going to look stronger compared to the difficult times last year.
