- Thursday, 10 December 2009A substantial number of Britons have at some point been the victim of credit card fraud, with the Christmas period said to be a particularly dangerous time.
That is according to a new survey from CPP, the identity protection and card insurance company, which reveals that 31 per cent of consumers have been targeted by fraudsters in the past.
Those that follow professional advice on avoiding fraud could prevent themselves getting into financial difficulty and coming to rely on debt help.
Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at CPP, said that people should only take out the cards they intend to use on a specific shopping trip and that people should avoid carrying cards in their pockets.
She added: "When you finish your Christmas shopping, check all of your receipts against your bank statements, so you can make sure that there are no fraudulent transactions that have occurred that you are not aware of."
Of those people who have previously been targeted, the average amount stolen stands at £623.
