Consumers that are dealing with
debt management plans may be worried about the increasing cost of car insurance and fuel.
There are ways in which Brits can save money while keeping their cars, including shopping around for insurance and buying it online.
Such is the advice of price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, which stated that shopping around for car insurance can help people save £292 a year.
Car insurance can also be bought online to save money as some providers offer discounts to customers who sign up via the internet.
The website found that Brits are now more likely to choose cars with a smaller engine rather than gas guzzlers as a way of reducing their fuel bills.
It was found that the most popular car among UK motorists in 2010 was the Vauxhall Corsa.
Peter Harrison, car insurance expert at the firm, said: "Rather than accepting a renewal price on car insurance, shopping around for a better deal and using price comparison sites will save you money."
From December next year, women drivers may find that their car insurance increases as it will no longer be sold on a gender basis.
